Troubleshooting
The entry is shown in red
Check the message on the entry.
- Choose the body shape key for this entry. You have not chosen a body shape key yet.
- The body has no shape key named "...". Choose another one. The body was changed or the shape key was renamed. Choose it again.
Entries like this are skipped at build time and reported in the NDMF console. The other entries and the upload continue as usual.
Shape keys that another clothing will get cannot be used
You can set underwear as the Body renderer of outerwear, but you can only pick shape keys the underwear already has. The new shape key that the underwear's Shape Key Transfer creates at avatar build cannot be used as the outerwear's body shape key. Such an entry is shown in red and skipped at build time.
To make the outerwear follow the body too, set the body as its Body renderer.
The clothing does not follow
- Check that the Preview slider is not at 0.
- Turn on Show influence and check whether colored dots appear on the clothing. If there are none, Movement range is too small and the clothing is outside the range.
- Check that Multiplier is not at 0%.
- Check that the Strength by distance curve does not drop to 0.
The clothing moves over too wide an area
Reduce Movement range and increase Movement fade. The movement near the edge then fades out smoothly.
The clothing forms sharp points
Clothing vertices are usually sparser than the body's. When the body forms a narrow bump, only a few clothing vertices pick it up, and the end becomes sharp.
Raise Smoothing range to 1.5–2 cm. Each clothing vertex then takes the average of the body movement around it, and the bump spreads out round. If the bump becomes too low, raise Multiplier above 100% to restore the height.
A measured example: an avatar wearing a sleeveless shirt, transferring the body shape key Nipple_On.
| Smoothing range | Steepest slope | Peak height | Shape |
|---|---|---|---|
| 0 | 0.596 | 7.6 mm | Sharp point |
| 1.5 cm | 0.216 | 3.5 mm | Round bump |
| 2 cm | 0.122 | 2.3 mm | Smoother bump |
On a large shape key such as Breasts_Big, Smoothing barely changed the result. The mean error against the clothing author's own shape key was 5.58 mm at a Smoothing range of 0 and 5.39 mm at 1.5 cm.
A number is added to the name
The clothing already had a shape key with the same name, so it was created as Name1. If you want a different name, enter it in Name on clothing.
Parts that hang away from the body, such as between the breasts, swell less
Where the clothing spans a gap away from the body, the body right under it barely moves, so the clothing swells less. With Keep outside the body on, clothing inside the Movement range is pushed out of the body. Clothing beyond the Movement range does not move, so give shape keys that enlarge the body a lot a generous Movement range. If it needs to swell more, raise Multiplier, use the clothing's own shape key of the same name, or give this entry a different Name on clothing and use both.
